Water and Sanitation in Honduras – Peace Corps Masters International |
The Peace Corps Honduras Water and Sanitation program focuses primarily (although not exclusively) on the water issues related to the rural population. The rural population accounts for 55% of the total 7.5 million people in Honduras. Slightly less than 80% of the rural population has access to improved drinking water defined as having access to at least 20 liters per person per day from a designated and/or protected source located within 1 km of the point of consumption. Also, in the rural areas, the water supply and treatment is significantly more unreliable and less available for the population at large. |

In January 2005 Benjamin Latham and Kelly Latham started in the Peace Corps Masters International Program, a joint program between the US Peace Corps and select US universities. They began a course of study at CSU in Watershed Science and were assigned by Peace Corps to work in Honduras as Water and Sanitation Engineers. |
