Land and Water – Quality of life in the Peruvian Amazon
The village of Santa Rosa de Dinamarca, located on the Ucayali River in the Peruvian Amazon, has requested the assistance of EWB - FC in the design and construction of a potable water supply and distribution system and in the demarcation of technical boundaries for their territory. Currently, women of the community typically collect water from four shallow wells for their water supply. Tests performed during the June 2007 and 2008 visit showed these wells to be positive for coliform bacteria. In addition, resource governance has been and is continuing to change dynamics of the use, conservation, development and general management of resources that are essential for the livelihood of indigenous communities along the Ucayali River.
